Every Dad's Nightmare

So I was playing outside yesterday with my kids, and my eldest daughter (age 5), without a trace of presumptuous or mischief in her voice, matter-of-factly announced that:
I'm the kind of kid who disobeys.
Hoo boy. The more I thought about it, the bigger the cold shiver that ran down my spine....

After my parents took me to a remote area of the Adirondack Mountains for a "picnic," then casually mentioned that they bought me from the indians (who, in my four-year-old imagination, were suddenly lurking behind every tree in the dusk-ening forest) and could sell me back to them, I was very obedient. So threats work. I also have a nervous tick I can't (tick) seem (tick) to get rid (tick) of, but I'm sure that's (tick) (tick) (tickticktick) not the reason! (tick)
