In my previous post on the Venezuelan election, I mentioned feeling surprised that Chavez didn't rig the thing. Well, according to Jorge CastaƱeda, a former Foreign Minister of Mexico, it turns out that Chavez did in fact try to rig the vote, and failed.
Of course, I have no independent way of verifying what CastaƱeda alleges; so take from his article what you will. I happen to think what he's saying is highly likely, though.
